Stop cruelty in the Australian wool industry, stop using merino wool or buying merino wool. Write to the Australian government to let it know that they’ll boycott merino wool until two particularly cruel practices in the Australian wool industry are stopped. Many people don’t realize that in Australia, merino lambs undergo a gruesome procedure called “mulesing,” during which farmers restrain lambs under metal bars and use gardening shears to cut chunks of flesh from their backsides—without any painkillers. To make matters worse, when these gentle animals are no longer profitable to farmers, millions of them are crammed aboard open-decked ships for a terrifying journey through all weather extremes to the Middle East. Aboard these “death ships,” sick and injured sheep are thrown overboard to the sharks or tossed alive into grinders. At their final destination, the survivors have their throats slit while they are fully conscious.

More information, including the video “Australia’s Secret Shame,” which documents these abuses, is available at www.SaveTheSheep.com.
